Stephen Curry has been one of the faces of the NBA for more than a decade. His incredible talent and winning mentality have made him the leader of the Golden State Warriors and one of the most prominent players in the world. However, time catches up with everyone, and retirement is a topic on his mind.

While participating in the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Curry was asked about his NBA future and gave a clear message about the timeline he’s set for himself. ā€œI’m just taking it two years at a time. That’s all I have on my contract,ā€ he said, according to East Bay Times.

The point guard has a current contract with the Warriors that covers that exact time frame. During the 2025–26 season, he is set to earn a league-high salary of $59.6 million, and the following year his earnings will increase to $62.5 million.

Only after the 2026–27 season will Curry consider reevaluating the next steps in his professional career. ā€œI hope to be in a position where physically I have the choice and it’s not made for me,ā€ he explained. By then, he’ll be 39 years old and finishing his 18th season in the NBA.

Curry remains an elite player

Despite his age, Curry shows no signs of slowing down. Last season, he was the driving force behind the Golden State Warriors’ push to the playoffs, helped especially by Jimmy Butler after the trade with the Miami Heat.

At 37, Steph played in 70 of 82 regular season games, averaging 24.5 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game, shooting 39% from beyond the arc. And in the playoffs—where the Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets before falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves—the guard averaged 22.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 5.3 rebounds, with a 40% three-point shooting percentage.

Curry comments on a possible addition to the Warriors

In the midst of reshaping their roster, the Warriors are reportedly interested in adding a center, considering it was one of the team’s weaknesses last season and that they let Kevon Looney go to the New Orleans Pelicans this summer.

According to rumors, Al Horford is a potential option for Golden State, and Curry shared his thoughts on the matter. ā€œHe’s a champion, great player,ā€ said the point guard, according to East Bay Times. However, he then remained cautious on the subject: ā€œWhen… if, when all that stuff happens, I’ll talk about it.ā€
