Michael Carter II was drafted by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft. That’s the same draft where the team picked another player named Michael Carter. Now, only the cornerback remains on the roster as the running back is in Arizona. Another change Carter will face is Aaron Rodgers is out of the team, and a new coach like Aaron Glenn is in town.
Carter II actually earned himself a 3-year, $30.75M extension due to his high level of playing. However, the corner has struggled to live up to that money due to injuries. However, it’s all about to change. “It was one of those things that it didn’t work out, but I’m in a lot better place now,” Carter said to the New York Post.
Carter added, “It was super tough, more mentally than physically. Everything physically was going on, but mentally I was just trying to make sure I was kind of staying in it… trying to prepare the best I could so I could help my teammates and at least try to make an effort to make it through a game.”
If Carter recovers his form, the Jets secondary will be a problem
Carter has 24 passes defended in his career, alongside two interceptions. He has also recovered three fumbles. While his interceptions are not a big number, playing as a nickel corner is more about disrupting play than creating turnovers.

Michael Carter II #30 of the New York Jets warms up prior to the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium on December 22, 2022 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
If he regains his level, alongside 2x All-Pro Sauce Gardner, the Jets might have a secondary that scares opposing teams. If you add new safety Andre Cisco and Tony Adams to the mix, this unit has potential to be special.

The new coach is the one to improve the secondary
Aaron Glenn is the new head coach of this team. He served as an NFL cornerback for 15 years. Glennn was actually drafted by the Jets in 1994 and played 8 seasons for the green-and-white. He made two Pro Bowls with the team and in 1996, he had two pick-sixes, one of them was a full field-long, 100-yard score.
That is the guy you want to have as coach if you are on the Jets secondary. A guy who represented the team successfully, and that knows what has to be done. Glenn is bringing new hope and change to the Jets defense.
