Aaron Rodgers continues to face criticism for how he has handled his situation with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, Eric Mangini, former head coach of the New York Jets, said on First Things First that he disagrees with how long the quarterback took to announce a decision, as it could impact his understanding of a new offensive system.
“Who’s leading? Who’s leading this process? Does he really know the offense well enough to talk about route adjustments? Does he know the different core plays around this offense? I don’t know if it’s me being cynical, but you had a lot of time to make a decision to become a Pittsburgh Steeler. You could have come in a little bit earlier. You could have gone to a few OTAs. You could have gotten a much more thorough understanding of the system so that this becomes that much more impactful.”
Rodgers will try to win the second Super Bowl of his career in a new offensive system led by Arthur Smith. Although the veteran is familiar with certain plays, this will be very different from what he experienced with the Jets. That’s why Mangini believes he lost valuable weeks.
What’s next for Aaron Rodgers?
After attending mandatory minicamp, Aaron Rodgers will need to learn the playbook during these few weeks off before reporting to training camp on July 23.
One key event the quarterback announced on social media is a private workout he had just a few days ago with several of his teammates in California. It’s important to remember that Aaron lives in Malibu.

What Mangini also pointed out and criticized about Rodgers is that, if all this time he didn’t want people to know what he was doing in private, then why did he make that workout public on social media?
“Didn’t he talk about how he’s trying to stay away from the media and keep things private? Then, you have this and you’re the one that posted on Instagram? It just seems a little bit like disingenuous.”
