Being the current NFL champion requires keeping the bar high for whatās ahead, and not lowering expectations for the upcoming season. To do this, the Philadelphia Eagles are working to maintain a competitive roster, and the addition of AJ Dillon is a clear example of this.
A serious neck injury forced the talented running back to sit out the entire season with the Green Bay Packers. Despite this, Dillon revealed that he is now fully recovered and that Nick Sirianni will be able to count on him if he desires.
āWe met with specialists from the East Coast, West Coast, everywhere. Weāre good to go. Got the green light,ā Dillon said this week via NFL.com. āSo Iām excited to get here, play ball and continue to be a part of whatās been some dominance in Philly.ā
After spending the last five years in Wisconsin, Dillon arranged his arrival in Philadelphia on a one-year contract, presenting himself as an alternative to Saquon Barkley in this department.

AJ Dillon #28 of the Green Bay Packers carries the ball during the second half of the game against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium on December 24, 2023 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dillonās neck injury
AJ Dillon did not see any playing time last season in Green Bay due to a neck injury that, due to the severity of the situation, forced him to miss the entire season. Coming back from an injury is never easy, especially when it involves such a sensitive area that troubled the running back.

NFL News: AJ Dillon makes something clear to Saquon Barkley about the Eaglesā RB1 role
While going through his recovery, the former Boston College player contemplated his future, ultimately deciding to continue playing, at least for one more year.
āOriginally, when you get that kind of news, you always want to be cautious, make sure youāre ticking all your boxes, doing all the proper checks and balances,ā he said. āBut I got all the green lights, so Iām feeling good.
āā¦I donāt feel any residual or anything like that. So one of those things that you just kind of work through, get back and here I am and Iām in Philly, Iām gonna make the most of it.ā
What role will Dillon play?
While one would think that AJ Dillonās arrival to the Philadelphia Eagles would be to serve as the primary backup to Saquon Barkley, the truth is that the team currently lists him as the RB3, indicating that heās much further down the depth chart than originally expected.
While rookie Will Shipley appears to be the first backup for Barkley, as the weeks go by, it will become clear whether Sirianni will choose the former Packer as an alternative, or if he will go with the young ex-Clemson player.
