The Pittsburgh Steelers have been far from the team some analysts advertised before the start of the NFL season. Despite still having a great defense and one of the best coaches in the league, they’re a ways away from being a legit contender.

The Steelers have struggled to move the chains even against lesser rivals. Ben Roethlisberger looks more done as the weeks go by, and losing JuJu Smith-Schuster for the year isn’t going to do much to help their case.

Even so, it seems like they’ve found more balance thanks to rookie running back Najee Harris, who’s given them a big boost over the past couple of years. Even so, their quarterback believes there’s still plenty of work to do.

“We’re not by any means going to sit here and say we’re fixed, we’re this great offense,” Roethlisberger told Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “We’re not there yet. We still have a long way to go.”

Big Ben also addressed Smith-Schuster’s injury and how it was a massive blow for the locker room, adding that he reached out to him and was heartbroken after hearing how hurt he was for not being able to play:

“It’s awful,” said Roethlisberger. “I’ll speak selfishly, I’m hurt. I miss that guy, what he brings to this team, his energy, his excitement, the leadership. It sucks. It really does. And I’m not the one hurt. I spoke to him on Sunday night, and I felt his pain through the phone, speaking to his mom as well. It’s just sometimes things aren’t fair, and we don’t know why they happen. A guy that’s given so much, means so much to this team and to me specifically.”

We’re always going to like our chances with a team coached by Mike Tomlin and with a solid defense. Then again, their offense needs to be fixed right now if they want to have a shot in such a tough division.
