The New England Patriots entered this NFL season with more questions than answers, starting for who was going to start the year as their quarterback in the aftermath of Tom Brady’sdeparture to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

At the end of the day, Cam Newton got the nod over Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham, which seemed like the better option at the time. Fast-forward to Week 11 and Newton has yet to convince fans and analysts that he’s got what it takes to be a starter right now.

However, given New England’s – lack of – options right now, perhaps it would be forthe best to bring him back for another year as they prepare for the future. Then again, Newton just doesn’t want to think about that right now.

Cam Newton Shakes Off Question About His Future With The New England Patriots

ā€œMan, I have interest in winning the Arizona Cardinals game (onSunday). How about that?. I mean, there’s so many things that I don’t even want to harp or dwell or even think. I think my, as the Bible says, my cupeth runeth overeth with just trying to focus on the near future rather than the far future,ā€ Newton said in an interview on WEEI’s Greg Hill’s Show.

The 2015 MVP has led his team to a 4-6 record this season, although he did miss one game due to Covid-19. Thus far, he’s passed for 1,900 yards with just four touchdowns and seven interceptions, adding 341 rushing yards for ninescores and one fumble lost.

There are obviously glimpses of Newton’s former self but he’s been inaccurate downfield and reluctant to take contact on the ground, which is understandable given his injury history with the Carolina Panthers.

The Patriots can still make their way to the playoffs but are far from the contender they once were. Still, this might as well be Newton’s last chance to get a starting job in the National Football League.
