Chargers QB Justin Herbert could lose an offensive weapon ahead of the 2025 NFL season

The Los Angeles Chargers will look to join the group of title contenders in the 2025 NFL season with Justin Herbert and head coach Jim Harbaugh leading the way.

The Los Angeles Chargers will face the tough challenge of competing in an AFC West that has been dominated in recent years by the Chiefs. Justin Herbert will once again be tasked with leading a team looking to emerge as a contender in the upcoming 2025 NFL season—though unfortunately for him, he might have to do it without one of his offensive weapons.

Recent reports point to the potential departure of Hassan Haskins from the team. Despite being a Michigan Wolverines product, he may not have a place in Jim Harbaugh’s plans, and his future could soon be tied to another franchise.

The news was reported by journalist Jason Reed of Bolt Beat, who highlighted this particular aspect of the Chargers’ roster—specifically, the overcrowded running back room. As a result, the team will need to evaluate its options moving forward.

“While he still adds the same special-teams value, the running-back room is much more crowded in 2025 than it was in 2024,” Reed stated. “Najee Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton will be the two primary backs with [Kimani] Vidal providing even more potential in his second season.

“There is also UDFA Raheim Sanders, whom the Chargers like so much they excluded him from certain drills during rookie minicamp. Haskins has to outplay Sanders in training camp to secure his spot, but even then, the Chargers may prefer the younger option with fewer miles.”

Los Angeles bets on Hampton’s talent

Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers made the wise decision to strengthen Justin Herbert’s offensive supporting cast heading into next season, using their first pick in the latest Draft on Omarion Hampton, one of the top prospects at his position.

Selected with the 22nd overall pick in the first round, the former North Carolina Tar Heels running back was one of the most explosive players in college football last season. His move to the NFL wasn’t a matter of when, but rather where he would land.

Fortunately for him, he’ll have the privilege of forming a duo with the former Oregon Ducks QB, something many believe could become one of the most potent tandems in the league—at least within their division.
