The Los Angeles Chargers will face the tough challenge of competing in an AFC West that has been dominated in recent years by the Chiefs. Justin Herbert will once again be tasked with leading a team looking to emerge as a contender in the upcoming 2025 NFL seasonâthough unfortunately for him, he might have to do it without one of his offensive weapons.
Recent reports point to the potential departure of Hassan Haskins from the team. Despite being a Michigan Wolverines product, he may not have a place in Jim Harbaughâs plans, and his future could soon be tied to another franchise.
The news was reported by journalist Jason Reed of Bolt Beat, who highlighted this particular aspect of the Chargersâ rosterâspecifically, the overcrowded running back room. As a result, the team will need to evaluate its options moving forward.
âWhile he still adds the same special-teams value, the running-back room is much more crowded in 2025 than it was in 2024,â Reed stated. âNajee Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton will be the two primary backs with [Kimani] Vidal providing even more potential in his second season.

Justin Herbert #10 hands the ball off to Hassan Haskins #28 of the Los Angeles Chargers against the Las Vegas Raiders in the third quarter of their game at Allegiant Stadium on January 05, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Chargers defeated the Raiders 34-20.
âThere is also UDFA Raheim Sanders, whom the Chargers like so much they excluded him from certain drills during rookie minicamp. Haskins has to outplay Sanders in training camp to secure his spot, but even then, the Chargers may prefer the younger option with fewer miles.â

Los Angeles bets on Hamptonâs talent
Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers made the wise decision to strengthen Justin Herbertâs offensive supporting cast heading into next season, using their first pick in the latest Draft on Omarion Hampton, one of the top prospects at his position.
Selected with the 22nd overall pick in the first round, the former North Carolina Tar Heels running back was one of the most explosive players in college football last season. His move to the NFL wasnât a matter of when, but rather where he would land.
Fortunately for him, heâll have the privilege of forming a duo with the former Oregon Ducks QB, something many believe could become one of the most potent tandems in the leagueâat least within their division.
The Chargersâ first steps
With the primary goal of getting off to a strong startâand why not, aiming for a potential Super Bowl runâthe Chargers will face these first five games of the NFL season:
- vs Kansas City Chiefs â September 5th
- vs Las Vegas Raiders â September 15th
- vs Denver Broncos â September 21st
- vs New York Giants â September 28th
- vs Washington Commanders â October 5th
