Kansas City Chiefs fans may be having a hard time with multiple players injured at the start of training camp. To make matters worse, one of their own seems to be letting the rest of the NFL know how Patrick Mahomes is struggling to throw deep passes.

Speaking to reporters after Tuesday’s practice, Chiefs safety Mike Edwards went viral after addressing his interception against Mahomes: “Seeing Pat load-up, I expected him to overthrow and he did.”

The quote was shared by Chiefs insider Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports on X (formerly known as Twitter), and it immediately sparked countless reactions from Kansas City fans. Needless to say, Chiefs Kingdom wasn’t happy with this situation.

Chiefs fans left stunned by Edwards’ comment after intercepting Mahomes

Edwards’ publicly addressing Mahomes’ struggles in training camp not only raised eyebrows for the mere act of exposing a teammate, but also because many fear other NFL teams will take note of this when they play the Chiefs.

Some of the replies to Goldman’s post were directed at Edwards. “I’m crying why he is bullying him,”one user wrote. “Were you even on an NFL roster last year,” another fan replied.

However, most of the replies were requests for the post to be deleted before Edwards’ words spread. “Delete man,” one wrote, followed by another user who replied “Why would you post this.”

“Delete this I’m not even playing,” read one of the replies. Another fan wondered, “Why are we posting this,” with another user echoing that sentiment, “Shooting ourselves in the foot for what.”

While the general feeling was to pretend like Edwards didn’t say this, others saw his comment about Mahomes as a sign that the 2025 NFL season might be really challenging for the Chiefs. “This season is gonna be so bad isn’t it,” a user wrote.

Too soon to be concerned

In the wake of the reactions, Goldman added more context on Edwards’ comment: “Full quote for the curious (first part is follow-up to previous answer): ‘Yeah, tips and overthrows. Kind of read my keys and seeing Pat load-up, and I kind of expected an overthrown ball, which he did, and I just caught it. Had to come up with it. So, good play.'”

It’s still too soon to hit the panic button for Chiefs Kingdom, but it’s safe to say that Edwards’ comment looked a bit unfortunate. That said, Mahomes has already proven his doubters wrong, and a training camp mistake shouldn’t give fans legitimate reasons for concern. Let’s wait and see how he fares when the real competition starts.
