The Indianapolis Colts saw how their quarterback, Anthony Richardson, left the team’s preseason game injured and then, Daniel Jones, the other signal-caller battling for the starting spot, took his place. Now, an update on Richardson’s status has been received by his teammates.
Richardson suffered a hit by Ravens’ David Ojabo and sustained a dislocated pinky in the play. According to head coach Shane Steichen, the quarterback is considered day to day, meaning the injury is not that serious.
However, next game will be Daniel Jones‘ opportunity to prove he deserves the starting gig. After Richardson’s injury, Jones stepped up and had 10 passes completed out of 21 attempts. He threw for 144 yards. Richardson only threw three pases and completed two of them.
Richardson might need Jones to flop his chance
Once again, Anthony Richardson is unavailable. He has suffered constant injuries ever since he got into the NFL. Even during this offseason, he missed spring camp with shoulder injuries.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (5) throws during a game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts on December 1, 2024, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
This means that he might need Daniel Jones to not shine if he still wants to be considered for the QB1 spot. Jones had an early lead on camp and then Richardson closened the gap. Now, it’s time to see if Jones can once again separate himself.

Who are the Colts facing next?
On August 16th, the Colts will host the Green Bay Packers for the second preseason game. That’s the game where Jones will start. However, it also gives Richardson a whole week to get back on track.
Then, to close it out, the Colts will visit Cincinnati to face off against Joe Burrow’s Bengals. This will be the last game to prepare for their NFL 2025 season opener vs. Dolphins.
