Jalen Hurts will face the tough task, alongside his teammates, of validating their success from last NFL season, where they claimed the Super Bowl championship. A new QB has joined the Philadelphia Eagles, coming from the Draft, looking to gain experience in this new stage of his career.
It’s a busy time in the NFL, as all 32 teams look to strengthen their rosters in the best way possible, bringing in young talent from the NCAAF. Nick Sirianni’s squad is no exception, and among their picks, they decided to select a backup to support Hurts.
A product of the Ohio State Buckeyes, who last season represented the Syracuse Orange, Kyle McCord was the pick made by the reigning champions to join their roster, bringing youth and, potentially, a backup option for Jalen Hurts.
During his high school years, McCord played in Philadelphia for St. Joseph’s Prep. Now, he’s the newest member of the ‘QB Factory,’ as Eagles GM Howie Roseman called it.

Kyle McCord #QB09 of Syracuse participates in a drill during the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium on March 01, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In his final season, McCord played 13 games for Syracuse. There, he completed 391 passes, throwing for 4,779 yards and helping his team score 34 touchdowns through the air. Additionally, he was intercepted 12 times.

McCord’s reaction after being selected by the Eagles
McCord’s first steps in football were in Philadelphia, so it could be said he’s returning to where it all began. After being selected with the 181st overall pick, the talented player is heading back to Pennsylvania.
Through his official X account (formerly Twitter), McCord, who represented Syracuse up until last season, reflected on his return to this city, posting a heartfelt message, excited about this positive step forward in his career.
“Back in the city!!!! Thank you God #FlyEaglesFly,” the quarterback stated via @kylemccord16, adding an eagle emoji at the end of his message.
The Eagles’ first pick
Being the reigning champions from last season logically meant their pick would come at the end. After a trade with the Chiefs, the Eagles managed to move up to the 31st spot in the first round, where they decided to draft Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Jihaad Campbell.
