Ezekiel Elliott is one of the best running backs in the game right now and that goes without saying. Nevertheless, the NFL is a passer's league nowadays and the Dallas Cowboys will only go as far as Dak Prescott can take them, for better or worse.

Prescott showed glimpses of grate talent when he stepped up for the injured Tony Romo and earned the starting quarterback spot under Jason Garrett's tutelage. However, his team's struggles vs. playoff teams have raised some questions regarding Prescott's status as their franchise gunslinger.

That's why the team has gone back-and-forth when it has come to negotiate a contract extension. Even so, Ezekiel Elliott is pretty confident about Prescott as the team's quarterback going forward and had his teammates' back when asked about their ongoing dispute.

“Everyone in our locker room knows who our quarterback is. They know who our quarterback long-term is gonna be. Just keep grinding. Head down, do what you been doing. It’s going to work itself out," Elliott said, as quoted by Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Ezekiel Elliott is quite familiar with Prescott's situation, as he threatened to opt-out of last year's season until the Cowboys agreed to offer him a six-year, $90-million contract extension that made him the highest-paid running back in the league.

According to multiple reports, Dak Prescott's camp demand he gets something north of 35 million dollars per year, which is the market value for the top-tier quarterbacks in the league. Nonetheless, Prescott's status as a top-notch signal-caller is still up to debate.

The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Prescott and he's slated to make $31.4 million this season. He continues to bet on himself and demonstrate that he deserves the same kind of deal Russell Wilson and Jared Goff got, especially after Patrick Mahomes' record-breaking contract extension.

As for Ezekiel Elliott, the former Ohio State Buckeye is poised to have another strong season to take some pressure off of Prescott's shoulders after running for 1,357 yards and 12 scores in 2019.
