Aaron Rodgers‘ departure from the New York Jets wasn’t the only loss this offseason. Another star of the team, a defensive player, made the decision to join Dan Campbell‘s Detroit Lions for the upcoming NFL season, and he was candid in revealing the reasons that led him to switch teams.
D.J. Reed joined the Jets in 2022 from the Seattle Seahawks, and during his time in New York, he had the privilege of sharing the roster with Aaron Rodgers. However, as we all know, they were far from showing a competitive level, much less achieving results.
In a recent conversation with Jim Rome on ‘The Jim Rome Show,’ the talented cornerback made it clear that one of the main reasons he decided to move to Detroit and play under Dan Campbell is simple: to win a Super Bowl.
“It’s simple,” Reed said. “I wanted a chance to win a Lombardi, bro. That’s something that I wanted to do. I want to win a Lombardi with my teammates, my coaches, and with the organization. I just wanted to go somewhere and play good football and meaningful football. That was the main thing for me. To be in Detroit, it’s a blessing, bro. God really works in mysterious ways. The ownership, the Fords, head coach Campbell, everybody is just working as well so I’m just looking forward to it.”

D.J. Reed #4 of the New York Jets looks on during the game against the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium on September 19, 2024 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Reed joined the Lions after agreeing to a three-year contract worth a total of $48 million. The former Kansas State Wildcats player has become one of the most high-profile additions to Detroit‘s roster.

Can the Lions reach the Super Bowl?
Although there is still a long way to go before NFL action kicks off, the early predictions are starting to emerge on who could once again be contenders for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
An unexpected loss at Ford Field to the Washington Commanders left the Lions empty-handed, after what had been nearly a perfect season up until that point. The thirst for revenge remains intact for Jared Goff and his teammates, which is why their main objective is still very much alive.
Although it remains to be seen what decisions will be made in the upcoming NFL Draft starting on April 24, many are once again placing Dan Campbell‘s team among the contenders, at least to win the NFC North and, who knows, dream of reaching Santa Clara in February next year to compete in a new edition of the Super Bowl.
