The AFC West has some solid quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes, Bo Nix, and Justin Herbert. However, there’s a new face in the division—Geno Smith—who has made one thing clear about the Las Vegas Raiders.
It looks like the AFC West will live up to expectations this year. All four teams have improved, with the Raiders standing out as perhaps the most intriguing due to several major changes.
Earlier this offseason, the team brought in Geno Smith to be their starting quarterback. Still, he’ll face tough competition from three talented signal-callers who won’t make things easy for him.
Geno Smith makes one thing clear about the 2025 Raiders
Last year, the Raiders were far from a threat to the rest of the AFC West. The team struggled, especially without a consistent and reliable quarterback leading the offense.
That’s set to change in 2025. The Raiders acquired Geno Smith from the Seahawks in a bold move aimed at elevating the offense and making the team a true competitor in the division.

But the challenge is real. Patrick Mahomes, Bo Nix, and Justin Herbert are all proven or highly promising quarterbacks—and the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers look like legitimate contenders.
Geno Smith knows the Raiders have work to do. Still, he believes people are sleeping on them, and he’s confident they’re ready to shock their doubters this season.
“I’m always the guy that I believe the game gets settled between the white lines on game day,” Geno Smith said. “But from my vantage point, we’ve got a really, really good team. I don’t know if we’ll shock anyone inside of this building, but maybe shock some outsiders. But it’s good, like let them sleep. I don’t want them to see us coming. We’re just working in the shadows right now, getting our game right, and when it’s time to go in those bright lights, I think we’ll be ready.”
