NFL News: Aaron Rodgers isn't necessary to win a Super Bowl according to Vikings ownership

The Minnesota Vikings are moving forward without Aaron Rodgers in their plans. With J.J. McCarthy as their quarterback and a stacked offense, team ownership believes they have everything they need to chase a Super Bowl.

Aaron Rodgers is not a priority for the Minnesota Vikings. During an interview with NFL Network, Mark Wilf, the team’s president and co-owner, never mentioned the veteran as a real option at the moment. On the contrary, he placed all his trust in J.J. McCarthy.

“We feel really good. With coach O’Connell and our whole football braintrust, coaches and personnel work really well together. I’m really excited about our offseason. The additions we made. New players and keeping some of our veteran players as well. J.J. McCarthy is doing great and, again, with coach O’Connell at the helm, lot of confidence for the future.”

The Vikings have never won the Super Bowl and are now starting a new project after the departure of Sam Darnold. Their roster is spectacular, especially on offense, with names like Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Aaron Jones.

Who will be Vikings starting quarterback?

J.J. McCarthy will be the starting quarterback for the Vikings, and unless a catastrophe happens in training camp or preseason, Aaron Rodgers is not on the radar. Given this scenario, Wilf is convinced that the veteran is not necessary, as the O’Connell-McCarthy formula is the long-term plan.

“We have a lot of faith in coach O’Connell to bring us to that ultimate goal. Winning Super Bowl championships. He does a great work developing quarterbacks and the offense. We’re very positive about the outlook for the Minnesota Vikings. We know we’re in a tough division, but having a young quarterback like J.J. McCarthy leading us with coach O’Connell’s guidance gives us a lot of confidence.”
