Aaron Rodgers has yet to inform the Pittsburgh Steelers about his definitive decision for the 2025 NFL season. Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney II have been patient so far, but the quarterback should be careful not to extend his decision-making process for much longer.
The Steelers reportedly feel optimistic they will end up getting Rodgers this offseason, but his silence still leaves room for uncertainty. Pittsburgh had no problem waiting for him so far, but its patience won’t last forever.
Rodgers has been warned about this early this week, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network explaining on Monday that, even though the Steelers are giving him time, Rooney expects an answer from the 41-year-old sooner rather than later.
“He’s not impatient but eventually he will be,” Rapoport said of Rooney’s handling of the wait for Rodgers during an appearance on Good Morning Football. This came shortly after the team owner’s comments about the situation during the NFL annual meetings.

Speaking to reporters in Palm Beach, Florida, last week, Rooney II looked optimistic about getting a deal done for Rodgers, who hit free agency after spending the last two years with the New York Jets.

“We keep hearing that he’s, I guess, headed in our direction, and so that seems to (indicate that) all signs are positive so far,” Rooney said about Rodgers, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
The Steelers president and owner, however, also already suggested that the team will grow impatient if this wait drags on, admitting that he “didn’t envision it taking this long.”
“Not forever, but a little while longer,” Rooney said when asked if he was content waiting for Rodgers.
Rodgers gives Steelers positive signs
Rapoport suggested Monday that Rodgers has just one realistic option between the Steelers, the Vikings and retirement from the NFL. Since Minnesota is moving forward with J.J. McCarthy and the QB reportedly doesn’t want to call it a career yet, chances are that A-Rod plays in Pittsburgh in 2025.
Rodgers visited the Steelers’ facility in March, talking to Tomlin and GM Omar Khan during a visit that reportedly lasted almost six hours. A few days later, he had a throwing session with WR DK Metcalf, who joined the Steelers via trade this offseason.

This gives the Steelers reasons to believe he’ll be on board next year, yet it looks like they’re already exploring alternatives in case Rodgers turns them down. In fact, Tomlin and company have reportedly found an ideal candidate in the 2025 NFL Draft.
