Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs realized in the last Super Bowl that they need to upgrade the offensive line if they want a chance to compete for another championship.
The dominance of the Eagles’ defense in New Orleans with six sacks on Patrick Mahomes made it very clear. After a regular season and playoffs where they managed to survive by patching up that unit, Philadelphia did not forgive them.
Moreover, just days before the NFL free agency period begins, the Chiefs have lost one of their most valuable players, Joe Thuney, after a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears. However, Brett Veach already has a potential replacement lined up.
Who will replace Joe Thuney with Chiefs?
The Chiefs are interested in Ronnie Stanley following Joe Thuney’s departure, according to a report from The Athletic. Despite it not being his natural position, it’s important to remember that Thuney was moved to left tackle because other players had not performed at the expected level.
Under this scheme, Kingsley Suamataia would move to guard (where Thuney originally played), and Stanley would take over at left tackle. The Chiefs have their star center Creed Humphrey locked in and have placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Trey Smith.

The big question left to resolve is at right tackle, where Jawaan Taylor is currently set to start. The draft or free agency could change that scenario with the goal of protecting Patrick Mahomes. However, in the race for Stanley, the Patriots might have the edge over the Chiefs with massive salary cap space.
