With Carson Wentz hitting the open market, the Kansas City Chiefs decided to sign another free agent quarterback this offseason. Gardner Minshew will be Patrick Mahomesā€˜ backup in the 2025 NFL season, and he couldn’t be more excited about playing for Andy Reid.

The veteran quarterback, who spent last season with the Chiefs’ AFC West rivals Las Vegas Raiders, spoke for the first time since moving to Kansas City on Thursday, with quotes courtesy of Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

ā€œI’m super fired up to be part of a winning organization and a winning culture. I feel like I have so much to learn about how Coach Reid and Pat operate. I look forward to doing whatever I can to contribute and help this team win,ā€ Minshew said.

Minshew made nine starts with the Raiders in the 2024 NFL season, completing 66.3% of his passes for 2,013 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was under center when Las Vegas played Kansas City in Week 8 and did pretty well, going 24-of-30 for 209 yards and two touchdowns in an interception-free performance. Still, it was a 27-20 win for the Chiefs.

Despite being division rivals only a year ago, Minshew didn’t hesitate to show his true feelings by admitting how much he admires Reid. The quarterback is confident that the Chiefs won’t regret signing him, promising to settle in perfectly well at Arrowhead.

ā€œThat’s obviously a huge draw. I took a pre-draft visit with the Chiefs back in the day when I came into the league and I thought it went really well. I always felt it’d be a really good fit,ā€ Minshew added.
