Surprisingly, despite benefiting from the play, Buffalo voted in favor of banning it. Now, coach Sean McDermott has addressed the issue, revealing whether or not Josh Allen and the team will continue using the Tush Push this season.

The Tush Push is widely seen as a signature move by the Eagles. In this play, the quarterback lines up for a sneak and receives a push from behind by teammates, helping him gain crucial short-yardage over defenders.

Due to its high efficiency, many teams have tried to adopt the play, though few have succeeded the way the Bills have. Last season, McDermott used it to help Josh Allen convert key one-yard situations.

Still, the Bills were among the 22 franchises that voted to eliminate the play, leading many to believe they’d phase it out to avoid appearing contradictory. However, McDermott hasn’t ruled it out for the 2025 NFL season.

“We’ll play within the rules,” McDermott said, via the team’s website. “The rules have now been set and we always do our best to play within the rules that are set up for us.”

The Tush Push play, popularized by the Eagles, has been also used by the Bills under Sean McDermott’s coaching.

It appears the coach understands the safety concerns surrounding the Tush Push—but as long as it remains legal, he may continue to use it to Buffalo’s advantage.
