Justin Fields is just a few hours away from becoming a free agent, and no one knows for sure if he will play for the Pittsburgh Steelers again. While it may seem like the most logical decision, the reality is that the young quarterback will have a very interesting market where he could be offered more money.
During the 2024 season, Fields had a spectacular start with 10 total touchdowns and only one interception with the Steelers, leading them to a 4-2 record. Despite this, Mike Tomlin sent him to the bench, and he was replaced by Russell Wilson.
For that reason, Justin wants a clear path to being the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh or elsewhere. Given this scenario, a surprise franchise could give him the opportunity to compete for the Super Bowl.
Is Justin Fields a free agent in 2025?
Yes. According to a report from Jeremy Fowler, Justin Fields has decided that he will not accept an offer from the Steelers to test free agency starting next Monday. This opens the door for other teams to sign him.
“From what I’ve been told, the Steelers have been leaning Justin Fields in that Fields-Wilson equation. Both sides are open to a potential deal. They have had discussions. But my sense after making calls is that Fields will likely test free agency this Monday. At least go into Monday. He’s close enough to it. He will have some interest. The New York Jets, I expect to potentially have some interest. Could be some others. The fact that Matthew Stafford stayed in Los Angeles keeps a musical chair seat available for him. We’ll see how it shakes out.”
