NFL News: Justin Fields makes something clear on being Jets’ QB1 after Aaron Rodgers’ exit

Justin Fields has given a key response regarding his potential role as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets in the 2025 NFL season, stepping into the position left vacant by Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers is still casting doubts on his future in the NFL, but one thing is certain: the veteran quarterback is out of the New York Jets for the 2025 season. As his replacement, the Green team has signed Justin Fields, who arrived from the Pittsburgh Steelers during the current offseason.

Rodgers‘ storyline is one of the main plots in the NFL world, as the former Green Bay Packers star continues to delay his response to the Steelers’ offer. Meanwhile, the Jets have turned the page and are rebuilding for a new chapter after 15 years without making the playoffs. And now begins the Fields tenure (or something like that).

Speaking frankly, Fields is considered the main star in the quarterback room, but some rumors have indicated that the New York organization is targeting other QBs in the NFL Draft. During his official introduction, the former Steelers player was asked about that possibility.

Given the Jets’ potential interest in adding a quarterback in the draft, Fields responded clearly. “I don’t really like to answer rhetorical questions. I’m willing to teach, but I’m not really interested in rhetorical questions,” Fields answered, according to SNY.

Can Fields finally be a starting QB in the NFL?

Fields’ move to the Jets seems to be the long-awaited opportunity for the quarterback to prove he has what it takes to be a true QB1 in the NFL. In 2024, he appeared to have that shot after starting the first few games with the Steelers, but head coach Mike Tomlin handed the job back to Russell Wilson once he recovered from his calf injury.

Fields signed a two-year deal with the Jets as a free agent last month and is guaranteed $30 million. However, according to the New York Post, Aaron Glenn’s franchise is reportedly considering the possibility of selecting a quarterback in the later rounds of the draft as a developmental option. Among the mentioned prospects are Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and Louisville’s Tyler Shough.
