Shedeur Sanders had an impressive debut with the Cleveland Browns. The team’s head coach, Kevin Stefanski, spoke about the rookie’s performance in the 30-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

“Pleased with Shedeur. Pleased with the offense. Again, not perfect. Plenty that we can work on, but, I thought the guys did a really nice job. Shedeur in operating, the guys making plays. So again, a ton to teach of. The situations were invaluable for Shedeur and for all of our offense. He’ll get a ton of reps next week as well. That’s all part of our development of our young players.”

The young quarterback from Colorado completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. After falling to the fifth round of the 2025 Draft, Sanders took advantage of his opportunity to show his critics that maybe his potential in the NFL really is first-round caliber.

Who will be the starting quarterback for the Browns?

Joe Flacco appears to have a slight edge to be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. The veteran will be competing for the job with Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett. Deshaun Watson is practically ruled out, although he still has an active contract.

As expected, several reporters asked Stefanski if Sanders’ performance changed the quarterback competition in training camp. The head coach was very cautious in his response.

“I think the guys need to continue to earn their roles. That’s what these guys are doing. We’re really just focused on developing our players. We’re in evaluation mode. I’m pleased with where the guys are, but I’m not diving into a quarterback competition. I think we have an expectation for our quarterbacks in that position to go operate and make good decisions with the football. Our quarterbacks took care of the football, which is no small thing. All things moving forward as we continue to practice we’ll be focused on all of our guys development and getting these guys ready to play for the season.”
