Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles may be about to lose a player on a high-value contract ahead of the 2025 NFL season. The San Francisco 49ers are looking to move on from a forgettable year and have already set their sights on the situation, aiming to provide head coach Kyle Shanahan with a standout addition who was part of a Super Bowl champion roster.
Shanahan wants to continue strengthening his roster. After securing quarterback Brock Purdy with a notable contract extension, the Niners are now focused on adding more depth to the squad. Meanwhile, the Eagles are looking to part ways with a player who isn’t exactly cheap.
Although he didn’t play in the Super Bowl, Huff was part of the Eagles’ roster during the 2024 season and therefore received a championship ring. San Francisco could soon be acquiring a player who was teammates with Hurts.
Who could be the 49ers’ newest addition?
The 49ers are finalizing a deal to acquire defensive end Bryce Huff from the Eagles, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. The trade, expected to be completed after June 1, will involve a mid-round draft pick going to Philadelphia in exchange for the player.

Hurts’ former teammate is officially a Super Bowl champion, even though he was inactive during the Eagles’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the final. To facilitate the move, Huff agreed to restructure his contract: the Eagles will cover $9.05 million of his 2025 salary, while the 49ers will take on the remaining $7.95 million.
