Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers publicly admitted that Aaron Rodgers will not affect their approach to the draft. What’s interesting is that the head coach also spoke about what would happen in reverse. That is, if selecting a rookie could push the veteran off their radar due to his delay in making a decision.

“I think what you do in the draft often times affects maybe some, you know, talent acquisition that happens after. We’ll see how the acquisition goes this weekend.”

A week ago, Rodgers mentioned that he still wasn’t ready to decide on his next team due to issues with his inner circle. Extending the timeline even further could lead the Steelers to rule out the former Super Bowl champion.

Who will be Steelers starting QB?

Mike Tomlin wants Aaron Rodgers to be his starting quarterback with the Steelers, but for the first time in a long while, the head coach spoke about deadlines and the possibility that the draft could influence his decisions going forward.

Tomlin made it clear that training camp would have to be the time to have his future quarterback in place, whether it’s Rodgers or a rookie. So, the warning to Aaron is clear: if we find what we’re looking for in the draft, we might not wait until July or August.

Will Steelers trade in the 2025 draft?

For his part, Omar Khan stated that it’s unlikely the Steelers will trade up to try to select a quarterback early. However, what is a possibility is that they trade down, considering they lost their second-round pick in the deal with Seattle for DK Metcalf. If there’s no name that convinces them, Khan admitted they might try to gain more draft capital.

“We have six picks. I don’t know how realistic is that we move up, but, you never know. I think staying put or moving back is probably a better option for us as there are good players that can help us.”
