Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers could lose George Pickens, according to a report from James Palmer. The information indicates that both sides are very far apart on a contract extension, which means the star wide receiver could be gone in 2026.
“His time in Pittsburgh, in a lot of people’s minds, is limited. It has not gone well behind the scenes at all between George Pickens, the Pittsburgh Steelers and everybody involved. And this is leading up to, could he play for them in 2025? Certainly could. Would he be departing after the season? Yes. In a lot of people’s minds.”
The Steelers believe they have a Super Bowl caliber offense with receivers like Pickens and DK Metcalf, along with the long-awaited arrival of Aaron Rodgers. If the quarterback signs with the team, that combination could be very successful.
Will Steelers give George Pickens a contract extension?
At the moment, there don’t appear to be any negotiations for George Pickens to receive a contract extension from the Steelers. In fact, the rumors about a possible trade have been stronger.
Pittsburgh gave up a second-round pick in the trade for DK Metcalf with Seattle, and in order to get something in return before Pickens becomes a free agent, they might consider letting the young wide receiver go. What seems certain, according to Palmer’s information, is that if that doesn’t happen in 2025, the player is almost guaranteed to leave in 2026.
