The Pittsburgh Steelers are willing to extend Aaron Rodgers’ contract if the 2025 season is a success. That was Omar Khan’s surprising response on The Rich Eisen Show when asked if, as general manager, he could envision any scenario in which this could turn into a longer stay with the team if the veteran reconsiders his decision about a possible retirement.
“I mean, sure. Obviously, we have to see how the season goes, but, absolutely. He’s a young 41 and we’re obviously taking it year by year and that’s where we’re at, but, we’re not closing the door on anything.”
A few weeks ago, Aaron Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show that this was likely his final season in the NFL. However, at the start of training camp, the quarterback left the door open to a change of mind. As a result, uncertainty has returned regarding his possible retirement.
Is Aaron Rodgers going to retire?
Aaron Rodgers is not retiring from football and will be the Steelers’ starting quarterback during the 2025 season. However, no one knows what will happen beyond that point. What’s striking is that, in recent days, what once seemed like a sure farewell no longer feels so certain.
If the Steelers have a great season with Rodgers and the player becomes convinced he still has enough left in the tank to compete for a Super Bowl, Pittsburgh is willing to offer him a new deal when he turns 42.

It’s important to remember that Mike Tomlin wanted Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback so badly that the head coach played a key role in convincing Omar Khan to remain patient for several months until the former Packers player made his final decision.
“We don’t really view our patience as a weakness. I view it as a strength. We had some conversations and we were engaged with him. We just felt really good about our chances. We felt like he was going to be the right guy for us. He did a great job of communicating with us. It was an open dialogue. We knew where he stood and what was going on with him.”
