Aaron Rodgers made headlines a few weeks ago during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show when he was asked if the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers would be the last of his historic career.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is it. That’s why we just did a one-year deal. Steelers didn’t need to, you know, put any extra years on that or anything. So, this was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I’ve had. I’ve played 20 years. It’s been a long run and I’ve enjoyed it. What better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership and great guys in the city that expects you to win.”
However, at the start of training camp in Latrobe, the former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers left the door open for a possible return in 2026. It was a brief response, but one filled with intrigue about his future.
Is Aaron Rodgers retiring?
No. Aaron Rodgers is not retiring and plans to play the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The quarterback has a signed contract following his controversial departure from the New York Jets.
The interesting thing about the situation is that, after the interview with McAfee, 2026 seemed completely off the table for the veteran. This was his response on the first day of training camp with the Steelers when he was asked whether he was approaching this season as his final ride. “Yeah. I might go into the season like that (last ride). I might not.”
