Russell Wilson will become a free agent, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to give clear signs about a possible contract extension. In fact, several rumors suggest that teams like the Raiders or the Giants could be interested in the veteran.
After two very challenging seasons with the Broncos, Wilson signed with Pittsburgh in 2024, trying to revamp his career. The start was spectacular after six wins in seven games, but the ending was terrible: five consecutive losses.
Now, after the early playoff exit against the Ravens, the Steelers are not entirely sure that the veteran is the right option to return to a Super Bowl. Because of this, a Plan B could be in motion.
Will the Steelers draft a QB in 2025?
Yes. According to a report from Gerry Dulac, the Steelers will draft a quarterback, but it’s important to note that this wouldn’t happen in the first round. Pittsburgh already has a name in mind to make a big move in the middle rounds.
“Right now, their likely focus is on finding a young quarterback in the third or fourth round to be a backup and potentially develop as a future starter. One of the best possibilities for the Steelers could be Will Howard, who led Ohio State to the national championship after transferring from Kansas State. He has the size and mobility that reminds of a young Ben Roethlisberger.”

Despite their interest in a young quarterback in the draft to replace Wilson or Fields in the long term, the biggest problem for the Steelers is finding a star who can make them Super Bowl contenders immediately.
After Matthew Stafford confirmed he’s staying with the Rams, Mike Tomlin’s options are now limited to Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, or perhaps Sam Darnold.
