Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have had to deal with multiple casualties throughout training camp, and the start of NFL preseason continued to hit the Kansas City Chiefs with serious injuries.
Fortunately, the team received some positive news in offense, with the head coach confirming the return of a key weapon for Mahomes. Speaking to the media on Monday, Reid revealed that veteran wide receiver Marquise âHollywoodâ Brown returned to practice on Sunday.
âHollywood (Brown) did a little work yesterday, which was good,â Reid said, as quoted by Chiefs reporter Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports. âHeâll get a little bit more today. Weâll see. Weâll see how he progresses through this thing.â

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown (5) during training camp on August 2, 2024 at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO.
The 28-year-old has yet to be cleared to become a full participant though, as the Chiefs want to be cautious. Therefore, his availability for the final preseason game against the Chicago Bears remains uncertain. Mahomes is expected to suit up, with Reid declaring that all starters will play from the get-go on Friday.

âItâs not a matter of wanting to be out there,â Reid said about Brown. âHe wants to do it. Itâs just taking it slow. We just donât want any setbacks with this thing going forward here.â

But while Brownâs recovery is great news for Mahomes, Reid also had a negative update on the defensive side of the ball, revealing that 2023 first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah could be out for the entire 2025 NFL season with a strained hamstring: âMost likely, heâs going to go on IR (injured reserve) here, so this evening or this afternoon.â
If the Chiefs place the defensive end on injured reserve before the final roster cuts on August 26, he wonât be eligible this season. However, thereâs still a glimmer of hope since Reid wouldnât dare to rule him out yet.
âHeâs worked hard. Weâll see where it goes. I canât tell you how long itâs going to be. Any time is disappointing for him because heâs worked so hard,â Reid concluded.
