Ever since he made it to the NFL in 2009, Julian Edelman has been one of the most consistent, efficient, and trustworthy wide receivers in the league, even if he hasn’t had that many breakout seasons.

Edelman was often Tom Brady’s insurance policy. Either lining up at the slot or making big plays, the converted quarterback was a synonym to secure hands and a guarantee to move the chains more often than not.

However, as the years go by and he continues to pile up multiple injuries, he’s kind of lost his first step, ability to create separation, and a bit of his quickness, which is crucial to a guy playing in his position.

New England Patriots Star Julian Edelman Not Ready To Retire Yet

That’s why, following such a disastrous season with Cam Newton under center and no guarantee of the team improving in the foreseeable future, some people speculated that the end of Julian Edelman’s career could be just around the corner.

Nonetheless, when asked about it during an appearance on Pardon My Take, the Kent State product was quick to shut down that narrative, claiming that he’s ‘not there yet’ and hasn’t given it much thought.

Edelman could only make six appearances last season due to multiple injuries, piling up 21 receptions for 315 yards and 0 touchdowns, his worst numbers since becoming a full-time starter in 2013.

The New England Patriots have a lot of planning to do ahead of the 2021 season. Their defense is no longer as dominant as it was and Stephon Gilmore could walk away, while Cam Newton or Jarrett Stidham clearly aren’t the answer at quarterback. At least, they can count on Julian Edelman to be ready to go for – at least – another season while they figure things out.
