Ben Roethlisberger was the last quarterback to win the Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, Mike Tomlin wants to replicate that formula with another future Hall of Famer like Aaron Rodgers.
It won’t be an easy challenge considering the AFC North is one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL. Additionally, within the conference, two other teams look like strong contenders: the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Although the Steelers are in win-now mode for the 2025 season, the reality is that many believe they will be looking for their quarterback of the future in the 2026 Draft. All of this comes despite already having drafted Will Howard.
Who will be the Steelers starting quarterback?
Aaron Rodgers will be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but although Mason Rudolph appears to be the favorite for the backup role, Ben Roethlisberger suggested on his podcast Footbahlin that Will Howard deserves a chance to compete for that spot.
“Let them battle for the No.2 spot. I would split time with Mason and Will in the preseason. I think they would be playing for the backup job. Whoever is the better one, here’s my number two. So, that would be the smartest move to do in the preseason.”
