The Pittsburgh Steelers were founded in 1933 and they are the seventh-oldest franchise in the NFL. They are right up there with the New England Patriots as they have won six Super Bowls, the last one coming in 2008. They have been to the playoffs a total of 31 times and have won 23 division titles. The Steelers are the definition of excellence.

Founded by Art Rooney, the Steelers remain in possession of the family to this day, and their rabid fan base known as the Steeler Nation is at Heinz Field cheering their team on with every touch down scored! When thinking of a soccer look for the Steelers, we went in a direction that has not yet been explored in our series which are soccer stripes.

We transformed the Steelers into a classic soccer team with a traditional stripe home jersey that takes the team's colors and history and uses them as a springboard for this soccer look. The away kit is a homage to the steel curtain nickname of the club and explores the hard-working nature of the team.

Pittsburgh Steelers Stripe Home Jersey

Many legendary soccer teams have stripe patterns, and they are a classic soccer look. Teams like AC Milan, Juventus, Peñarol of Uruguay, are teams known for their classic stripe pattern.  It is a look that no NFL team has ever applied because of the nature of the pro Football jersey, but it gives the Steelers a distinct look.

The Black and Gold colors the Steelers wear are taken from the city flag of Pittsburgh and represent the three ingredients that create steel, coal, scrap steel, and iron ore. The color pattern is adopted by all the other major sports teams in the city like the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Power,  and Pittsburgh Passion. Each team has a different shade of Black and Gold.  The city is embedded in the DNA of these teams and the Steelers are the leader of the pack with their winning history.

Pittsburgh Steelers Soccer Crest

The crest is the classic Steelers logo adapted into a circular soccer crest which has the team name and six stars that represent the six Super Bowl titles the team has won over the years. The primary logo, which is in the center of the crest, was first introduced in 1962, and it is based on the design of Pittsburgh's U.S. Steel. The asteroids as they are called, have meant many things over the years, one being the ingredients to make steel, but the logo has been redesigned many times during the history of the team.

On the neck the six stars that represent the six Super Bowls the team has won is present. The Steelers won the Super Bowl for the first time in 1974 in Super Bowl IX. They would win 4 Super Bowls in 6 years in the late 1970s. Then they would not win a championship until 2005 in Super Bowl XL. Their last championship came in 2008 when the Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 27- 23.

Pittsburgh Steelers Steel Away Jersey

The away jersey takes its inspiration from the team nickname the Steel Curtain. The defensive line that became the Steel Curtain was the backbone of the team's late 70s dynasty. The color pattern of the jersey has a gray tone that makes reference to the steel color and the three logos on the neck symbolize the materials needed to create steel.

Steelworkers have a tough job, and these jerseys pay homage to that tough profession and the hard-working, never say die attitude of Pittsburgh steelworkers and the Steelers. The crest is in a bright yellow color so the jersey can stand out, the Steelers badge comes out at you, just like that Steelers defensive line.

So what do you think of the Pittsburg Steelers soccer jersey? Did we capture the essence of the team?
