The sports community and every single NFL fan around the world were desperate to watch Tom Brady make his debut with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, either to make fun of him if the team lost or to admire his greatness if he could pull an upset off.

Brady was pretty hyped about the start of the season and the Bucs were the team everybody was talking about after signing the legendary quarterback, as well as Leonard Fournette, and even Rob Gronkowski.

Then again, Brady’s debut was far from what he and Tampa’s fans expected. He was clearly quite rusty from the offseason and the New Orleans Saints were a far superior team in every aspect of the game.

Tom Brady got off to a great start and capped on his first drive with a rushing touchdown but it all went downhill from there. Notably, he gave a pretty blunt response when asked about his performance.

Tom Brady Gets Brutally Honest About Poor Debut With The Buccaneers

“Well, I certainly think poor execution and that’s what it comes down to. It’s a game of execution. Obviously, they made more plays than we did and I just made some bad, terrible turnovers and it’s hard to win turning the ball over like that. I obviously have to do a lot better job,” Brady said after the game.

The six-time Super Bowl winner became the third quarterback to throw a pick-six in three straight games since Blaine Gabbert and Matt Schaub. At least, he took the blame for them even though one could have been caught by Mike Evans:

“Yeah, they were bad throws. When it comes down to it they were just bad throws – can’t do it,” Brady concluded. He ended the night with 23 completions, 239 yards, a couple of touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.

It’s still way too early to hit the panic button in Bruce Arians’ team but they must improve significantly if they want to live up to the expectations and make the most of that two-year deal they signed Brady to in the summer.
