We couldn’t ask for a better matchup for Mac Jones’ NFL debut. He’ll get to face his old buddy Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins in Week 1, a pair of former Alabama Crimson Tide standouts.

But, just like it happened when they shared the quarterback room (with Jalen Hurts also there), there will be nothing friendly about this. It’ll be a bloodbath, a competition, and the perfect moment to make a statement.

But besides that, Tagovailoa spoke up on meeting vs. the Mac Jones-led New England Patriots in Week 1, lauding Jones’ competitiveness and brains and even wishing him good luck in his debut.

NFL News: Tua Tagovailoa Speaks Up On Facing Mac Jones’ Patriots In Week 1

ā€œI think it’s going to be competitive, just knowing Mac Jones since I’ve got there,ā€ the Dolphins quarterback said, as quoted by ClutchPoints. ā€œWe got in the same time at Alabama. He’s a very competitive guy, very smart, athletic, he’s instinctive and I know he’s going to do all he can to get his guys ready offensively. That’s what I’m trying to do for our guys, getting ready for the Patriots next week. I haven’t been able to talk to Mac. If he’s going to watch this sometime, or if it’s going to be running on ESPN, good luck Mac.ā€

There’s clearly no bad blood between these former teammates and they’re going to have a blast out there. Both of them have a lot to prove this season and will be extra motivated from the kick-off.

As fans, we just can’t wait to see two of the most promising quarterbacks in the league take the gridiron, although some growing pains are to be expected. Hopefully, they’ll silence their critics right away and prove why some scouts were always so high on them.
