Everybody knows it, but few dare to speak on it: facing a former team has an extra twist in the NHL, and in sports in general. The Islanders and Canucks will headline a marquee matchup in the NHL on March 26, as both sides are eager to secure the two points and climb in the standings. Winning is pivotal for both parties, but wins would have different effects in Long Island and Vancouver.

With a win over the Canucks, the Islanders would take sole possession of the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. At least until the Montreal Canadiens play on March 27 and equal New York’s games played total.
