Jim Harbaugh gave a pregame speech to the Anaheim Ducks before their matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes at Honda Center, but it ultimately had little effect. The home team struggled, managing just two goals in a lopsided defeat.
The Ducks shared Harbaugh’s speech on their social media accounts, receiving positive reactions from fans. The NFL head coach referenced the Kentucky Derby and the intense moments leading up to one of the world’s most prestigious horse races.
Despite coming off a 4-1 road win against the Predators, the Ducks couldn’t carry that momentum back home. Even after hearing from the Chargers’ head coach, they fell short against a Hurricanes team fighting for position in the Eastern Conference’s Metro Division.
The Ducks remain hopeful for a playoff push, but after a 5-2 loss to Hurricanes, they now sit sixth in the Western Conference’s Wild Card race. Anaheim lost control in the third period, surrendering three goals that sealed their fate.
A Game to Forget Against Carolina
The Hurricanes struck first, an early warning sign for Anaheim. Mark Jankowski opened the scoring at the 8-minute mark of the second period, but the Ducks responded with a tying goal from Alex Killorn at 13:04. After the game, Killorn admitted the team wasn’t strong enough. “Have to be a little stronger on our sticks and in front of the net,” he said.

Anaheim defended well in the first period, but things unraveled as the game progressed. The third period was particularly brutal, as the Ducks conceded three goals while only managing one—scored by Trevor Zegras, marking his second straight NHL game with a goal.

Harbaugh is well known for delivering fiery speeches in the NFL. As head coach of the Chargers, he frequently rallies his players in the locker room, with his postgame speeches often gaining traction online—especially after his impressive first season, which saw the team reach the playoffs.
