Mitch Marner left the Toronto Maple Leafs, but there could still be more departures from the team led by Auston Matthews. According to a report by Elliotte Friedman, that was the reason they couldn’t sign Andrew Mangiapane.
“I think one of the reasons the Leafs didn’t get Mangiapane was because they kind of indicated: ‘We have to move some bodies out.’ Mangiapane didn’t want to wait. I assume one of them is Kampf and another one could potentially be Jarnkrok.”
In the end, Mangiapane signed with the Edmonton Oilers in a key move to support Connor McDavid after losing the Stanley Cup Final against Brad Marchand and the Florida Panthers.
Who did the Leafs lose in free agency?
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost Mitch Marner. The Canadian star was traded from to the Vegas Golden Knights as part of a sign-and-trade deal that shocked the entire NHL.
After signing a new long-term contract with Toronto, the team then moved him to Vegas in exchange for Nicolas Roy. Now, as Friedman has mentioned, the Leafs could lose more players in the coming days.
