The New York Islanders won’t need to head into arbitration after all. Just days before a scheduled hearing, the team reached a contract agreement with Maxim Tsyplakov, securing the forward’s presence for two more seasons.

The 26-year-old winger had filed for arbitration earlier in the month, joining a small group of NHL players seeking resolution through the formal process. But both sides managed to close a deal ahead of Tuesday’s hearing, finalizing a contract with an average annual value close to $2.25 million.

Tsyplakov, who completed his first full season in the NHL, now looks to cement a consistent role after contributing 10 goals and 25 assists over 77 games. His new deal offers both security and opportunity as the Islanders look ahead to the 2025–26 campaign.

Arbitration avoided ahead of deadline

Tsyplakov was among 11 NHL players who elected for arbitration this summer. While his hearing had been scheduled just four days later, negotiations advanced quickly enough to avoid a formal session. The decision clears the way for the winger to rejoin the roster without further delay.

The forward had an uneven rookie year, but showed versatility and reliability across multiple lines. Now under contract, he is expected to occupy a spot in the Islanders’ middle-six group as the franchise looks to retool after a competitive but ultimately short-lived postseason.

With Tsyplakov now signed, the Islanders can shift focus to rounding out their roster and exploring further moves via trade or free agency. While their cap situation remains relatively stable, internal growth from players like Tsyplakov will be crucial in a competitive Metropolitan Division.
