Amid swirling rumors about Sidney Crosby and his potential departure, the Pittsburgh Penguins have made a significant move to strengthen their roster and help the Canadian star.
The Penguins acquired veteran defenseman Matt Dumba and a 2028 second-round draft pick from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok.
In recent weeks, Crosby has been at the center of numerous reports linking him as a potential teammate for Nathan MacKinnon with the Avalanche, or even as an option for the Montreal Canadiens. However, the reality is that all signs point to Sid staying in Pittsburgh.
Who did the Penguins just sign?
The Pittsburgh Penguins have just signed Matt Dumba in a move by the team’s front office aimed at assuring Sidney Crosby that the goal remains to build a competitive roster for the final stretch of his career.
Last season, Dumba played for the Dallas Stars, tallying one goal and nine assists for a total of 10 points over 63 games. Across 12 NHL seasons with stints in Dallas, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and Arizona, he’s established himself as a reliable presence on the ice, appearing in 737 regular-season games and recording 84 goals and 174 assists.

Additionally, the move aligns with the Penguins’ stated goal of continuing to stockpile top draft picks for the coming years. Pittsburgh now boasts an impressive arsenal of 29 draft picks spread across the next three NHL drafts, including a remarkable 17 picks within the crucial first three rounds.
