During the last 10 years, soccer fans have been watching Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi breaking almost every Champions League record. Their feats and titles have put them both among the best players to have ever played the tournament. However, there are still some records out there that probably neither of them will ever break.

Scoring for most teams

This record belongs to another soccer superstar: Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The experienced striker scored goals in Champions League games with six different teams: Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain. Messi have played his entire career for Barcelona and he said many times that he will retire there. Ronaldo, on the other hand, is closer to Ibrahimovic’s record, after scoring goals with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.

Quickest goal

On March 7, 2007, Roy Makaay put his name in the history books of the UEFA Champions League. He scored for Bayern Munich in a match against Real Madrid after only 10.12 seconds of play. The Dutch striker took advantage of a defensive mistake and netted the opening goal of the game. Messi and Ronaldo still have a chance to break this record, but what are the odds, right?

Most goals in a single final

It’s been 60 years but this record still belongs to Ferenc Puskás. The legendary Real Madrid forward scored four times in his team’s 7-3 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1960 European Cup final. Messi and Ronaldo have scored in different Champions League finals of course, but netting four times in a single one is a completely different thing. After Puskás, no one could score more than twice in a final.

Best goal average

This is probably the most unreachable stat for Messi and Ronaldo, and it belongs to Bayer Munich legend Gerd Müller. The former German striker scored 34 goals in 35 European Cup games, almost one goal per game (0.97). It might be unfair as both the Argentine and the Portuguese scored more than 100 goals in the Champions League, but still it will be impossible for them to match Müller’s goal average.
