The Copa America 2021 is around the corner and Ecuador is one of the teams that are going to take part in it. La Tri has never won the tournament, but their good place at the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers 2022 seem to augur a good run this time.
Ecuador hasn’t a good record at the Copa America. La Tricolor participated in the tournament for the first time in 1939 and they almost always left the competition in the first round. Their best result was in 1959, when they were hosts and finished in fourth place.
This time, Ecuador was grouped with Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. Gustavo Alfaro’s team has proved they can play on equal terms with most of the national teams of the region, so they can have a fair chance to reach the quarterfinals. Here is Ecuador’s schedule for the Copa America 2021.
Ecuador vs Colombia – June 13
La Tricolor will start their tournament playing against Colombia at Arena Pantanal, in Cuiabá. The game will start at 8:00 PM (ET), just after the Brazil and Venezuela debut. They trashed 6-1 Los Cafeteros last year, when Colombia was still coached by Carlos Queiroz.
Ecuador vs Venezuela – June 20
They will have plenty of time to prepare for their second match against Venezuela, which will be played at Olímpico Nilton Santos. The game will start at 5:00 PM (ET). The last time these two played was an International Friendly in 2019 that ended up in a draw.
Ecuador vs Peru – June 23
Three days later, La Tricolor will play Peru in one of the, presumably, crucial matches for the group. The encounter will be played at Estádio Olímpico Pedro Ludovico Teixeira, in the city of Goiânia, and it will start at 5:00 PM (ET).
Brasil vs Ecuador – June 27
Ecuador’s last group match will be against the locals. It will be a tight encounter, and they will seek revenge after they lost 2-0 in Matchday 8 of the World Cup Qualifiers. The match will be held at Estádio Olímpico Pedro Ludovico Teixeira and it will start at 5:00 PM (ET).
