When we talk about South American players, many of Colombia's stars will probably come up to mind. Los Cafeteros have been providing the soccer world great talents and they have also grown as a team, which is why they arrived at Copa America 2021 as a serious contender.

From José Pekerman's era to the current times under Reinaldo Rueda, they have enjoyed a great generation of players that shone in Europe's greatest leagues and revitalized Colombia's strength on the continent.

Therefore, they became a tough team to face over the last years and their hopes of winning silverware have increased since then. It's been a long time, but Los Cafeteros are hoping to get their hands on a trophy again in Copa America 2021.

Colombia's best result in the Copa America

Surprisingly, Colombia have won the Copa America trophy just once. Their lone continental success took place about 20 years ago at home, but they have done it in great fashion.

Francisco Maturana's men were ruthless in the 2001 edition that took place at home and went on to claim the title unbeaten. They were the first side to be crowned in Copa America without dropping any points nor receiving goals.

It was an unforgettable way for Los Cafeteros to win their first Copa America, doing so in front of their fans, recording an impressive run, and ending a long drought. Even though Colombia are eager to repeat such a good result after twenty years, that celebration will live long in their memory.
