USA wants to go to the final, but first they have to play Canada. This game of the Women’s Soccer Tournaments semi-finals at the 2020 Olympic Games will take place at Kashima Stadium on August 2, 2021 at 4:00 AM (ET). USA and Canada went through the same situation to reach the semifinals: the penalty lottery.

Team USA in the quarterfinals tied the Netherlands 2-2 but they won in penalty shootouts to earn a place in the semifinals. Netherlands missed twice on penalties, while USA missed only one penalty and Megan Rapinoe scored the last winning shot.

Team Canada also knows what it’s like to suffer with a round of penalties. After a tough 0-0 game against Brazil the women of Canada had to do the impossible in the penalty shootouts: eliminate Brazil from the 2020 Olympic Games. The result of the panalties was 4-3.

USA vs Canada: Storylines

The women of the USA have vast experience playing soccer. Four gold medals at the Olympic Games: 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012. In addition to medals, Team USA is four times champion of the FIFA Women’s World Cup: 1991, 1999, 2015 and 2019. The records of these girls surpass the men’s soccer team. Experience is the only word that summarizes the entire showcase of victories and medals of these women.

Team Canada does not have gold medals, but they do have two bronze medals at Olympics Games. One at the London 2012 games and the most recent one in Rio de Janeiro 2016. After the medals, the girls from Canada have been champions twice in the CONCACAF Gold Cup (1998 and 2010).
