Formula One is back in Austin with today’s United States Grand Prix. Max Verstappen will aim to finish first in one of Lewis Hamilton’s favorite circuits after taking the pole position on Saturday.

This is Verstappen’s ninth pole of the season and his eighth in the last 11 races. Mexican Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s teammate, will also start at the front of the grid, third to be exact, after a terrific session on Saturday.

The title race is still on the line with Verstappen and Hamilton only six points away from each other. Hamilton has dominated the Circuit of the Americas, in which he’s triumphed five times, but it seems like the Dutchman can beat him this year.

2021 United States Grand Prix: Storylines

The race was canceled last year by the coronavirus pandemic. So, it’s not surprising that enthusiastic crowds have returned to the Circuit in Austin. There’s a sold-out 140,000 for today’s race. And it seems like they will watch a fun race.

While Verstappen was the fastest during the qualifying, Sergio Perez was one of the most cheered drivers of the evening in Austin. On the other hand, Bottas ended up fourth but he will start ninth due to a five-place grid penalty for exceeding his engine allocation.

That’ll promote Charles Leclerc one place to fourth, the Ferrari driver edging out teammate Carlos Sainz. Daniel Ricciardo was the leading McLaren in eighth, ahead of teammate Lando Norris, with AlphaTauri duo Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda closing out the top 10.
