Roger Federer will face Hubert Hurkacz this Wednesday, July 7, to reach his 14th semi final in Wimbledon. The Swiss is on the quest for his ninth title in the All England Club, but first has to pass over the Polish, who is going to play the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time.

After a shaky start at the tournament, Federer has found his rhythm on grass and has reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the 18th time in his career. The 39 year-old didn’t have much trouble against Lorenzo Sonego and won in straight sets to keep building his confidence.

When everyone thought that he might face Danill Medvedev in this round, 24 year-old Hurkacz came back to win the Russian in five sets after a delay for rain. It’s going to be only his second time playing at Centre Court in front of a big crowd, but the Polish is ready to keep surprising at Wimbledon 2021.

Roger Federer vs Hubert Hurkacz: Head-to-head and storylines

While Federer, a man with 20 years on the ATP tour, has 103 titles; Hurkacz, turned pro since 2015, has only three. But this year, the 24 year-old lifted his first ATP Masters 1000 in Miami in April. Federer, on the other hand, before Wimbledon only had a record of 5 wins and 3 losses in 2021.

Still, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has way more experience than his rival in this kind of scenario. Also, he’s coming with a full day of rest, while Hurkacz had to finish his match with Medvedev this Tuesday in the morning.
