Lois Boisson reaches French Open semifinals, matches feat of Seles and Capriati in fairytale run

French young star Lois Boisson keeps making history at the 2025 Roland Garros after beating Mirra Andreeva to reach the semifinals.

Lois Boisson’s Cinderella story at the 2025 French Open continues. The French young player beat sixth seeded Mirra Andreeva in a tough battle, 7-6(8), 6-3, to reach the semifinals of the tournament and keep making history. This time, matching a feat by legends Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati.

She is also the third player since 1980 to reach the semifinals at their first Grand Slam main draw appearance after Seles (French Open 1989) and Capriati (French Open 1990), per Opta Ace.

With her win, Boisson, at 22 years old and nine days, is also the youngest French semifinalist in a women’s singles Grand Slam tournament since Mauresmo, 20 years old, in Wimbledon in 1999.

Boisson, who started the tournament at the No. 361 and now will be into the Top 70, also added her second win over Top 20 players in her career, being unbeaten so far. She will now face Coco Gauff in the semifinal tomorrow, after the World No. 2 beat Madison Keys in the quarter-finals.

The French young star came from defeating World No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the fourth round, and had a difficult start against Andreeva. However, with the help of the crowd, Boisson was able to overcome the Russian’s attacks, maintain her composure in tense moments and came back from 3-5, saving two set points.

Boisson is the first Wild Card player to reach the semis in Paris

In another impressive stat, Boisson is also the first player in the Open Era to reach the Women’s Singles semi-finals at the French Open as a wild card. After her triumph, she was holding back tears as she recalled how last year she had to overcome a torn ACL.

As the only French player remaining in the draw, Boisson carries the hopes of her nation on her shoulders. She is the first Frenchwoman to reach the Roland Garros semifinals since Marion Bartoli in 2011 and has already made history. Nevertheless, she aims to achieve even more.
