Dillon Gabriel may not have had his best game, but he managed to help his team pull through a tough matchup, bringing their record to 11 wins and no losses.



Gabriel knows that both his performance and that of his teammates were not ideal to get through this game. However, he made it clear in the post-game press conference that everything went as planned and that the undefeated record remains intact in Oregon.



“It’s hard to win. And big time plays need to happen in big moments,” Gabriel said. “And I thought a lot of our players did make those things happen, you know, as a fourth down stop by the defense”.

“But I think in general, winning games are hard, and when you have a team that knows how to win and doesn’t second guess anything, I think that speaks volume on just the guys we have in our building,” continued Gabriel.

“I thought we moved the ball really well early. Thought we had some good things going early. And getting the first first [down], and moving it that way, but just struggled sometimes in third downs and then taking negatives on my end. “But I think you look at certain drives when we needed it, I thought we played really well. But yeah, just got to clean that stuff up,” he concluded.

Lanning shared his thoughts on the performance in the post-game press conference.



“I don’t know about risk overthinking,” the HC stated. “We basically said, if we saw the look that we thought we liked, we would, we would run it and we didn’t, and we would take a delay of game and punt. We were in the look that we liked, and then they actually checked out of that, you know, the look that we liked. But our guys did a good job executing the scramble drill. Let’s credit to T Ferg, credit the offensive line and Dillon for taking advantage of that opportunity.”



Additionally, he specifically addressed the curious play involving QB Dillon Gabriel: “Yeah, I mean, we probably had a little good luck there, right?” Lanning said. “But we also had a play that guy makes a great catch and certain impressive play by Dillon and to keep it alive and find somebody down the field.”

<h2>Oregon close to securing the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoffs</h2>



After their solid performance and another victory over Maryland, Dillon Gabriel’s Ducks are just two more wins away from a Big Ten Championship Game berth in their first season as a member of the conference.



Wisconsin and Washington are on the near horizon for the Oregon team, which, if they win those two games and the Big Ten title game, would almost certainly secure the top spot in the Playoffs, giving them the advantage of starting with a Bye Week over their rivals.



Considering how Dan Lanning’s squad is heading into the final stretch of the season, it’s unlikely that the top spot will slip away from them. Of the ten victories they’ve secured so far, eight have been by double-digit margins, with the exceptions of Boise State and Ohio.

The NCAAF is gradually entering the critical phase of the season: collectively, teams are striving for as many wins as possible as the end approaches, while individually, several players are vying for the Heisman Trophy. Dillon Gabriel, having an outstanding season with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/oregon-ducks">Oregon Ducks</a>, is one of them, and his coach Dan Lanning expressed his thoughts on the matter.



Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes, Travis Hunter of the Colorado Buffaloes, and Ashton Jeanty of Boise State, to name a few, are top contenders for this trophy, which holds significant personal value in college football.

Despite all these impressive statistics, the QB keeps his feet on the ground and doesn’t let emotions take over: “I feel like history doesn’t necessarily kind of go with what we want to do… but I feel like, just being present, being right in the moment, I think that’s allowed us to seize every moment. “I think he (Warren) played well in the last game and I think getting in a rhythm and finding some consistency is probably important for them,” Lanning said, via On3. “It’s different based on who’s in the game. They’re both capable and they can win in different ways.”

Third-year senior QB Jack Tuttle announced his retirement after sustaining his fifth concussion. Tuttle played in two games this season and threw 30 passes for 306 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.



“Though closing this chapter is unfortunate, my passion for football will always be a part of me,” Tuttle posted on his social media. “I am committed to finding a different role in the game and plan to pursue a role in coaching.”

Many wonder where the ducks go when Central Park’s lake freezes over in winter. As for the Ducks in Eugene, they are not afraid to shift locations—or conferences—and still perform. Dillon Gabriel has made an immediate impact in Oregon upon his arrival this past offseason. “Being aggressive, being the aggressors,” Gabriel stated, via On3. “I think, you know, we give a lot of people a tough time, with how much we do on all three phases. So I think you’ve got to look at it as a holistic approach, of that’s what we’ve been but then, you know, within our unit on offense, how can we continue to be aggressive in the way we call it, the way we play.”



“You know, playing a game that — you’ve got to go win it. You know, that’s where college football is, as well. You know, you have to stay aggressive and play to win, throw to win. But I think if you look back, even to when Coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dan-lanning">Lanning</a> first got here, I think he set the tone on how he wanted his program to look, and that’s with, you know, how aggressive he’s been, you know, throughout the years.”

<h2>Gabriel opens up on biggest areas he’s improved in</h2>



This is Dillon Gabriel’s sixth season, due to an injury in 2021 that granted him another year of eligibility. Gabriel has become an <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> journeyman, as he previously played for Oklahoma and UCF. The second-year senior QB is on pace to equal, or surpass, his career-best numbers he put up last season in Norman. The Ducks quarterback commented on what areas he has developed the most since arriving in Eugene.

“I would say approach and I would say everything that’s off the field. Not to say I haven’t continued trying to get better on the field, it’s just I think off the field is a true measure of a leader and being able to get guys around you to play to a certain level.



“So I think that was the biggest challenge for me coming in January, trying to build trust and belief in my teammates and a new guy in town, and I just took it day by day. And I think off the field, you got to build those relationships so you can be extremely demanding on the field and that’s why we do it.”

Oregon took down Ohio State in Eugene on October 12th. The team followed up that statement win with a dominant 35-0 triumph over Purdue. The team’s recent performances and their unbeaten record (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) have made waves all over <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a> during their first season since moving on from the Pac-12. The Ducks have hit the ground running in the Big Ten Conference and are looking like bona fide contenders.



Along with their great outings and an offense led by Heisman Trophy candidate QB Dillon Gabriel, the Ducks have been favoured by the Texas Longhorns disasterclass against the Georgia Bulldogs. Because of it, Oregon is now ranked on first place in the AP Top-25 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> rankings. 



However, head coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dan-lanning">Lanning</a> is not losing any sleep on the rankins, focused on the bigger picture instead: “Who cares?” Lanning said, per On3. “Our messaging hasn’t changed. The Oregon Ducks are slowly becoming one of the standout teams in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAAF</a>, especially after their historic victory last Saturday against the Ohio State Buckeyes. With an impressive performance from QB Dillon Gabriel, Dan Lanning‘s squad remains undefeated. It was the head coach who addressed Gabriel’s performance.



The record of six wins and no losses is no coincidence for Oregon. The team’s high level of play in each game has positioned Dan Lanning’s squad as a serious title contender.



The clearest demonstration of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/oregon-ducks">Ducks</a>‘ talent was their last game on Saturday, where Oregon secured a historic victory with a score of 32-31 against the perennial contenders, the Buckeyes. The standout performance of their star QB Gabriel was key to achieving this goal.



After the game, it was <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dan-lanning">Lanning</a> himself who highlighted the superb performance of his QB: “Every time I went and looked in his eyes tonight, I saw a guy who was composed and ready for his next moment,” Lanning said to the press after the win. “He played really, really well tonight in some really big moments.”

Dillon Gabriel’s outstanding performance last weekend has positioned him as a serious candidate for the Heisman Trophy. However, this won’t be easy, as he’s currently trailing the top contender, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

Oregon secured a victory in Week 2 against <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/boise-state">Boise State</a> in a spectacular game filled with incredible plays. However, one play in particular upset Dan Lanning of the Ducks. Despite the initial frustration, the play wasn’t as costly as it could have been, as another of his players saved the day with a crucial touchdown.



The highly controversial play involved a touchdown by Noah Whittington, who ran the kickoff back 100 yards for an amazing touchdown. However, just before crossing the goal line, he dropped the ball. After a review by the officials, the play was ultimately ruled a touchdown.



In the post-game press conference following Oregon’s 37-34 win over Boise State, Ducks head coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dan-lanning">Dan Lanning</a> discussed his feelings about the play where Noah dropped the ball and another player recovered it, saying he felt anger.



“Anger… first, right, anger and then relief when I found out who picked the ball up, but it’s something we can learn from. And I think if you’re not learning as coaches and players then you’re not doing your job.”

Noah Whittington’s play was spectacular—a 100-yard kickoff return, one of those rare college football season moments. The game was in the 4th quarter, and Noah caught the ball with 10 minutes left on the clock while Oregon was trailing 27-34 against Boise State. As soon as he had the ball in his hands, he ran from right to left and finally reached the end zone.

But as was evident and as head coach Dan Lanning saw, the crucial moment of that ‘bad’ decision by Noah was when Jayden Limar picked up the ball. This confirmed the touchdown, and after a review from New York, the 6 points for Oregon were quickly validated.

Coach Prime and the Buffaloes arrived with a 3-0 record after wins over TCU, Nebraska and Colorado State. However, they were 21-point underdogs at Autzen Stadium.

Even after halftime, when Oregon were already leading 35-0 with a spectacular performance by quarterback Bo Nix, Lanning sent another message to Sanders and the nation. “We’re not done yet. We’re not satisfied. I hope all those people that have been watching every week are watching this week.”

“I respect the heck out of this man. What he’s accomplished stepping in and taking over the program and keeping it not only rocking steady but accelerating it. I respect the heck out of him. I love what he’s accomplishing. I love who he is and the way he runs his team. I love the way he operates. So, I’ve got a lot of respect for him.”
