The 2025 NCAA season is approaching, and hostility is already brewing in the Southeastern Conference. On that note, LSU Fighting Tigers head coach Brian Kelly showed little love for Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning. Instead throwing his support behind his own signal-caller, Garrett Nussmeier.
The LSU Tigers are gearing up for a crucial season, hoping to wipe the slate clean after a turmoil year in Baton Rouge. The school has dealt with enough stressful situations, and will be looking for a fresh start when the new college football season kickstarts during the fall.
The Longhorns, on the other hand, are riding a high wave of momentum. After last season’s loss at the semifinal stage, the Manning-led program is a top candidate to the national title. The eyes of Texas and the entire nation are upon the sophomore quarterback ahead of the 2025 NCAA campaign. However, Kelly believes the Horns’ QB has something yet to prove.
“Look, we hear [about Manning] every day because he’s from Louisiana. And listen, there’s another guy that hears it all the time and that’s Garrett Nussmeier,” Kelly said, per College GameDay podcast. “He’s committed, and more than anything else, he’s experienced. And in this league, you need to see the bullets flying.
“All I’m saying is, Nussmeier has seen it. He knows what he’s going to get. There’s a confidence he’ll bring each and every game through experience, maybe even through some scar tissue, that’s going to allow him to be, I believe, the best quarterback.”
Opening fixture
Fans all around the country are already daydreaming about the start of the 2025 college football campaign. Regardless of the program’s real chances at the National Championship, every student and fan on every school in the United States of America is excited.
LSU will kickstart its fifth NCAA season under Kelly’s guidance on August 30th when the Tigers from Baton Rouge will visit the Clemson Tigers at Memorial Stadium. Nussmeier will be walking into a crucial season, his second year as the starting quarterback in the Creole State.
Hook ’em
The Longhorns are entering the upcoming season as the big favorites to win it all in college football. Whether Manning and Texas can sustain the nationwide pressure—which is ridingon their shoulders— is a whole other story.

They will face a litmus test in the opening week, visiting the reigning national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes. On August 30, they will walk into a hostile environment at The Horseshoe in Columbus. It will be a true trial by fire for the sophomore star and the rest of the team, and it will help paint a clear picture on Texas’ aspirations.
