Former Cubs reliever Kervin Castro rises as NY Yankees bullpen option amid injuries

Castro, 27, last appeared in the majors in 2022 with the Cubs and the San Francisco Giants, but spent last season in Triple-A within the Yankees organization. His 1.53 ERA in 35 appearances carried into spring, where he has posted a 0.96 ERA with six strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings.

With openings still available, Castro has emerged as one of the most consistent arms in camp. His recent performance has put him in direct competition with Jake Bird, Brent Headrick, and Rule 5 pick Cade Winquest.
