As a quarterback, Jalen Hurts is one of the key players who should know the rules, but it seems he doesn’t mind breaking them during Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was spotted wearing cleats that violate NFL regulations.
Photographic evidence shows Hurts warming up on the field before the Super Bowl against the Chiefs, clearly wearing black and red Air Jordan 1s cleats. These colors are not permitted as NFL rules state cleats must be black, white, or an official team color.
This isn’t the first time Hurts has broken such rules, but what’s more surprising is that the Eagles support this violation. They posted a photo on X of Hurts wearing the ‘illegal’ cleats with the word “UNBANNABLE” in uppercase, knowing it could result in a fine for Hurts after the game.
In the 2024 season, Hurts was fined for the same issue, but it seems he doesn’t mind since it probably doesn’t mean much for his $13.5 million salary. So far, he has received few fines since playing in the NFL, the most significant being in 2023, unrelated to shoes, for $16,000.
Hurts Changed Shoes Before the Game Against the Chiefs
Despite being seen wearing red and black shoes during warm-ups, even greeting Ronald Torbert, the main referee of the Super Bowl, while wearing those shoes, Hurts later came out to start the game wearing white and green shoes, which he kept on for the rest of the game against the Chiefs.
NFL Uniform Rules Are Strict
The NFL has strict rules regarding uniform usage for all players. The main rules concern team colors’ consistency, but they also include other regulations like players must tuck their jerseys, the color of the stockings, no personal messages on the uniform, among other things checked by uniform inspectors.
