Year in and year out, the UConn Huskies are expected to compete at the highest level in college basketball. Theyāre a powerhouse, and as such, thereās no margin for error.
Notably, thatās the standard that Dan Hurley has set for himself and the program. However, as we all know by now, you canāt win all the time, and the losses are often louder.
Coach Hurely has never been known for being a good sport after losses. He cusses, throws temper tantrums, and rarely takes accountability. Now, we finally know why.
Dan Hurley says heās ashamed of losing
āShame. When you lose, you feel embarrassment that who you are failed. It may seem strange, but this is my lifeās work,ā Hurley told Esquire. āYou pour everything you have into thisābuilding your style of play, developing the players, the skills, the mindset, putting together this team thatās going to be able to achieve and defeat others and win championships. And then when it doesnāt come together like thatāit hurts. Itās shame.ā
Everybody can relate to that sentiment. Then again, as the leader of a basketball program and a mentor for young men, he should be a little more in control of his emotions at times.
